WHEATON, Ill. (Jan. 27, 2018) – Coming into one of its toughest meets of the season as the 13th-ranked team in the nation, the North Central College wrestling team saw one of its grapplers take home a Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational individual championship after Emonte Logan placed first in the 285 weight class on Saturday.

After receiving first and second round byes, Logan faced Alma College's Austin Popp, pinning his opponent at the 6:18 mark to continue on in the championship bracket. Logan's next match had him up against Justin Hennessy of Nebraska Wesleyan University, but Hennessy was unable to control the outcome of the match as Logan defeated him in an 11-7 decision.

Drawing closer to the championship match, Logan won his next two matches by default, including a win over Augustana College's top-seeded Adarios Jones. Logan would also take a win by default over Nathan Barcaskery of Ohio Northern University and advance to the championship match.

Looking to be the first and only Cardinal to place at the invitational, Logan battled against Gabriel Mahoney from sixth-ranked Baldwin Wallace University and come away with a close 3-2 win by decision and the individual title.

North Central placed 21st out of 35 teams with 32 points. Tenth-ranked Messiah University took home the team championship with 137 points, followed in second by No. 12 University of Mount Union with 130 points and No. 8-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in third with 120.5 points. Baldwin Wallace University placed fourth with 118 points and No. 11 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse rounded out the top-five with 108 points.

At 149, Ben Williamson placed fifth after defeating unattached Liam Hannon by a commanding 9-0 major decision.
