WHITEWATER, Wis. (Jan. 27, 2018) - Bolstered by a pair of first-place finishes, the North Central College women's track and field team secured a fifth-place finish in Saturday's Warhawk Classic, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Cardinals totaled 52 points to finish in the middle of the nine-team field. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the meet with 238 points, followed by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (116) and the host Warhawks (73).

North Central's Naomi Yamane posted a season-best distance of 43 feet, 4.50 inches in the shot put to place first in the event, finishing 18 inches ahead of her nearest competitor. Yamane also placed fifth in the 20-pound weight throw, setting a new personal best with a mark of 49'1" to move up to sixth in the Cardinals' history in the event.

Also claiming first-place points was Madelyn Scopp, who clocked a 52-second indoor personal best of 18 minutes, 15.22 seconds in the 5,000-meter run to claim a nine-second margin of victory over her closest pursuer. Alexis Henz followed Scopp across the line in sixth place (19:12.91). 

Placing second and claiming her second North Central freshman record of the 2018 campaign was Kelsey McLaurin, whose time of 26.28 seconds in the 200-meter dash also ranks her eighth on the Cardinals' all-time list. McLaurin set North Central's indoor freshman record in the triple jump (37'4.50") on Jan. 13 at Grand Valley State University. The Cardinals' distance medley relay quartet of Carly Dagen, Meredith Wells, Charlieana Salzmann and Jamie Rohn secured runner-up honors as well (13:51.13).

North Central travels to Bourbonnais for the Olivet Nazarene University Invitational on Feb. 3.
