WHITEWATER, Wis. (Jan. 27, 2018) - Posting victories in two of the meet's three relay events, the North Central College men's track and field team acquitted itself well despite taking a limited squad to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Squig Converse Invitational on Friday, coming away with a fourth-place finish in a rugged nine-team field.
The Cardinals scored 86 points in the meet. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point place first in the team standings with 107, followed by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (98) and the host Warhawks (95.50).
North Central posted the fastest NCAA Division III time thus far this season to win the distance medley relay, as Chris Buechner, Peyton Piron, Michael Anderson and Zach Hird were timed in 10 minutes, 12.31 seconds. Piron also teamed with Daniel Spaccapaniccia, Ben Nordman and Michael Stanley to win the 4-by-400-meter relay, which finished in 3:21.74. The Cardinals also picked up fourth-place points in the 4-by-200-meter relay, getting a time of 1:35.80 from the quartet of Marco Povilaitis, Bobby Kallien, Brandon Cruz and Ben Piotrowski.
Alex Makrounis placed second in the 3,000-meter run (8:50.08), as did Nick Janca in the high jump (six feet, five inches). North Central also got a fourth-place showing in the high jump from Adam Poklop (6'3.25"), as did Anderson in the 800-meter run (1:58.16), Dylan Kuipers in the pole vault (15'1") and Chase Hall in the 5,000-meter run (15:43.63).
North Central travels to Bourbonnais for the Olivet Nazarene University Invitational on Feb. 3.
