WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 2, 2017) - With only one week until the competition for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional championship takes place, the North Central College women's cross country team finished second at their Red/White Open on Thursday.
The only team to outscore the Cardinals was Washington University at St. Louis, finishing with 24 points compared to North Central's 57. Wheaton College came in third (85) and St. Mary-of-the-Woods came in fourth (119). The top women's finisher in the race was Paige Lawler from Washington University at St. Louis.
The freshmen led the way for the Cardinals, with each of the top four finishers being first-years. Madelyn Scopp was the first Cardinal to cross the finish line, running the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 13 seconds, earning her a fourth-place finish. Close behind her was Alexis Henz in sixth (18:24), Emma Jourdan (19:09) in 13th, and Julie Kupiec in 16th (19:15). Sophomore Allyson McLaughlin (19:16) was the last scorer for North Central, taking 18th.
The Cardinals are in Rock Island on Nov. 11, competing for the NCAA Div. III Midwest Regional title.
