Vlasta Mangia has been honored as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Softball Hitter of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Cardinals to a pair of doubleheader sweeps.
Mangia finished the week with a .625 batting average (10-for-16), driving in six runs and accumulating three extra base hits. The sophomore finished three-for-four in game one against Beloit College (Wis.) on Mar. 30 while finishing game two with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Mangia was four-for-four with three RBIs on Saturday in a 7-1 victory over Monmouth College (Ill.). The righthander additionally compiled a 0.44 earned run average in the circle, striking out 10 and earning two victories and one save in 16 innings of work.
Her efforts helped the Cardinals sweep Beloit, 8-1, 8-0, and Monmouth, 7-1, 10-7, extending the team's win streak to six games.
On the year, Mangia leads the team in hitting with a .448 batting average while belting in 11 runs and tallying seven extra base hits.
This is the third Hitter of the Week honor for Mangia in her career, capturing the award twice in 2011, first on Mar. 22 and again on May 3.
The Cardinals open up CCIW play on Thursday, hosting Illinois Wesleyan University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Shanower Field.
