USTFCCCA Top 25 Rankings
Feb. 1, 2012-- The North Central College women's track & field squad is ranked 16th in the third installment of the NCAA Division III National Team Computer Rankings, released Wednesday by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Cardinals tallied 44.68 points in the week two rankings, placing 16th. North Central is one of two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads to appear in the Top 25 with Illinois Wesleyan University occupying the No. 4 spot with 87.60 points.
Wartburg College (Iowa) remains the nation's top-ranked team, amassing 177.33 points followed by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (151.02 points). Williams College (Mass.) is third with 114.94 points while Methodist University (N.C.) is fifth (83.77).
The computer rankings were first introduced during the 2011 season. Mathematical formulae based on current national descending-order lists in all events are used to compile a team's ranking. The purpose of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots at the NCAA Division III National Championships.
North Central remained perfect on the season, winning the NCC Quadrangular on Saturday at the Al B. Carius Track. The Cardinals won 10 events and tallied 236.50 points in the team tally, edging 10th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater by a 90-point margin.
Cardinal multi-event athletes will return to action on Friday for the Keck Pentathlon in Bloomington, Ill. while the remainder of the squad will compete on Saturday at the Warhawk Classic in Whitewater, Wis.
