WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 30, 2011)-- Placing five runners in the top six and seven among the top ten, the North Central College women's cross country team dominated its own invitational on Friday, capturing the team title at the Cardinal Classic at the Saint James Farm Forest Preserve.

The Cardinals, ranked fourth in the Midwest Region, finished two points shy of a perfect score, accumulating 17 points to run away with the team title. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival Wheaton College was second with 46 points followed by Concordia University Wisconsin (85 points) and Illinois Wesleyan University (103 points).

Alicia Zimmerman claimed top individual honors, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 12.39 seconds to nip teammate Krista Cota by nine-hundredths of a second. Kala Bingham ensured a top three sweep for the Cardinals, crossing the tape in 22:29.11 while Amanda Marek (22:56.36) and Lauren Hooks (22:58.32) finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth places, respectively.

Amy Schwent and Maggie Lapinski rounded out the varsity seven for North Central, Schwent placed ninth overall in 23:40.37 while Lapinski was four seconds back to finish 10th.

The Cardinals return to action next Friday, sending a contingent to nearby Lisle, Ill. for the Benedictine University Invitational at 3:30 p.m.
