BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Oct. 22, 2011)-- Winning five events, the North Central College women's swimming and diving team opened the lid on the 2011-2012 season on Saturday at the Fort Natatorium, finishing runner-up at the Illinois Wesleyan University Halloween Classic.
The Cardinals amassed 76 points in the team tally, finishing only behind the host Titans who tallied 87 points. Millikin University was third with 44 points followed by Principia College (16 points).
Kelsey Truedson accounted for four of the team's five first place finishes in her Cardinal debut. The freshman claimed victory in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in two minutes, 17.93 seconds. Truedson collaborated with
Loreli Patschke and
Kelsey Tumpane to win the 300-yard butterfly relay in 3:13.57 while teaming up with Tumpane and
Katie Stratton to win the 300-yard backstroke relay in 3:10.95.
Truedson's fourth event win came as a member of the 200-yard medley relay, assisting Stratton, Patschke and
Carolyn Masterton prevail in a time of 1:55.69.
Stratton accounted for North Central's fifth event win, claiming the 200-yard breaststroke after finishing in 2:36.26.
Tumpane placed runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:54.61 while the 500-yard free relay (5:10.74), 300-yard breaststroke relay (3:43.82), 300-yard medley relay (3:19.80) and the 200-yard free relay (1:47.00) all recorded second place showings.
In the diving events,
Bridgett Schmitt placed fifth in the one-meter competition, tallying 148.55 points.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Friday, Oct. 28, for a dual meet against Illinois Institute of Technology at 4 p.m.
