Sept. 1, 2010-- Hope Stayer and Rachael Houp each scored a pair of goals in their collegiate debuts, powering the North Central College women's soccer team to a 6-0 rout of visiting Lakeland College (Wis.) Wednesday night in the season opener at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals (1-0) needed just three minutes to get on the board as Emma Bader scored the game's first goal off a free kick. North Central would double its lead just 67 seconds later with Stayer finding the back of the net for her first career score. Houp pushed the advantage to three in the 24th minute off an assist from Bader before scoring again in the 36th minute off a rebounded shot by Jennifer Guy as the home side went into the halftime intermission holding a 4-0 edge with a 20-0 edge on shots taken.

North Central continued its domination in the second 45 minutes of play with Stayer scoring her second goal of the night on a breakaway in the 80th minute. Nora Wessels came off the bench in the second half and notched the game's sixth and final score in the 84th minute.

Amy Frazzini picked up her second career shutout in goal, making two saves while Lakeland's (0-1) Ashley Sarbacker recorded 17 saves on the night.

The Cardinals have won their last three season openers, taking down Benedictine University, 4-0, in 2009 and 2-0 back in 2008.

North Central returns to the pitch on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis. where they will take on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in the Warrior Cup hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College.
