ITA Academic Award Winners
Aug. 13, 2010-- The North Central College men's tennis squad was among the 35 schools to earn the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team Award while
Matt Boguslawski,
Eric McKee and
Josh Clay were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes for their success in the classroom and on the tennis courts.
North Central was the lone College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin institution to earn the All-Academic Team Award for the 2009-2010 season. The All-Academic Team Award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year.
Boguslawski earns a spot on the Scholar Athlete team for the first time in his career. The sophomore political science major was named to the CCIW All-Conference team in 2010 after compiling a 12-8 record at No. 2 singles while winning the conference title at No. 1 doubles with his partner
Sam Sweeney, finishing the year 18-3 with a 5-0 mark in conference action.
McKee makes his second appearance on the Scholar Athlete team in 2010. The sophomore actuarial science major finished the season with a 6-16 singles record, splitting time between the No. 4 and No. 6 positions.
Clay lands on the Scholar Athlete team for the second straight season. The sophomore mathematics major concluded the season with a 14-8 record, playing at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions and concluded the season on a five-match win streak.
In total, four individuals from the CCIW were recognized as ITA Scholar Athletes with Augustana College's Adam Simone the only conference representative not from North Central to earn the honor.
To be eligible for the Scholar Athlete Award, student athletes must be a varsity letterwinner, maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA for the academic year and be enrolled at his current college for at least two semesters.
North Central finished the 2010 campaign with a 7-15 overall record and a 2-3 mark in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Cardinals would go on to place fourth at the CCIW Tournament in May while Sweeney was selected to compete at the NCAA Division III National Tournament in singles where he advanced to the second round, earning All-American accolades.
