May 20, 2010 - North Central College men's golfer Joshua Brantner has been selected to the 2009-2010 ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District 5 Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program is designed to recognize student-athletes for combining academic and athletic success. In order to be eligible, nominees must have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) in addition to their athletic credentials. Athletes nominated for the At-Large Teams came from the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

The College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, community college and Canadian institutions. District 5 encompasses the states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin, in addition to the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.

Brantner, an accounting major, was one of 11 selections to the All-District Second Team, while a 10-member First Team was also named. Brantner competed in nine events for North Central this season, posting an 18-hole stroke average of 79.9 and recording two top-10 finishes. He placed 26th in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships.

Brantner is one of two CCIW representatives on the All-District List, joining Wheaton College wrestler Justin Tomal.

Brantner is the 22nd North Central student-athlete to receive Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA, and the first ever from the men's golf program. Wrestler Ben Youel '09 was on the At-Large All-District Team last year.
