NCAA Division III Tournament Field

May 12, 2010-- North Central College's Sam Sweeney was one of 32 individuals selected by the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee on Wednesday to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Oberlin College on May 28-30.

Sweeney (18-3), ranked third in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, becomes the first men's tennis player in school history to qualify for the national championships. The junior finished the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season undefeated at No. 1 singles (5-0), claiming the conference title for the second consecutive season. Sweeney additionally compiled a 3-2 mark against regionally ranked opposition including a, 6-1, 6-0, dismantling of then fifth-ranked Sammy Ramoni of Carthage College on April 13.

The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. The draw for the individual championships will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on the last day of the team championships on May 27.

The first two rounds of the singles championship will be conducted on Friday, May 28 with quarterfinal and semifinal matches to take place on Saturday, May 29. The Championship match will be contested on Sunday, May 30.
