May 10, 2010-- The North Central College softball team is back in the NCAA Division III Tournament after a one-year hiatus, heading out to Greencastle, Ind. where the Cardinals will face Trine University (Ind.) in the opening round of the eight-team regional hosted by DePauw University.

The fourth-seeded Cardinals (31-12) and fifth-seeded Thunder (26-13) square off at noon (Eastern) on Thursday in the double-elimination regional and will face either top-seeded Ohio Northern University (37-5) or eighth-seeded Thomas More College (Ky.) (22-18) the following day at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. Live stats will be available for all regional round games at http://depauw.edu/ath/live/softball/xlive.htm.

Third-seeded Washington University of Saint Louis (34-9) faces sixth-seeded Transylvania University (Ky) (34-9) in the opening round while second-seeded and host DePauw (35-6) faces Denison University (Ohio) (30-15).

North Central was one of four College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin schools to make the 60-team tournament field, CCIW tournament champion Illinois Wesleyan University (30-14) is the second seed in the Indianola, Iowa Regional while Augustana College (30-13) and Carthage College (24-13) are competing in the Whitewater, Wis. Regional as sixth and fourth seeds, respectively.

This will be North Central's ninth appearance in the NCAA Division III National Tournament, having made previous appearances in 2008, 2005, 2001, 1999, 1998, 1995, 1989 and 1983.
