NORMAL, Ill. (Apr. 5, 2010) - The North Central College men's golf team opened its 2010 spring schedule Friday and Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Invitational, placing 21st out of 24 teams at Ironwood Golf Course.
After turning in a team total of 346 in Friday's opening round, the Cardinals improved to a score of 325 on Saturday to finish at 671 for 36 holes. The host Titans posted a score of 612 to win the event, putting them four strokes ahead of runner-up Rhodes College (Tenn.) Rhodes did have the overall individual champion, as Shay Womack led the field with a three over-par score of 147.
North Central did have one individual finish in the top 10, as
Nick Guido carded a score of 154, including a one-over 73 on Saturday. Also figuring into the Cardinals' scoring were
Cole Oosthuizen, who was 72nd with a score of 168,
Brian Kirhofer, 95th with 172, and
Matt Grennell, 108th with 177.
North Central hosts Aurora University, Benedictine University, and North Park University on Tuesday at Cress Creek Country Club. The first groups are scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m.
