Mar. 31, 2010-- For the second time this season, North Central College's Sam Sweeney has been honored by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as the Men's Tennis Player of the Week, claiming the award after finishing unbeaten last week in both singles and doubles.

Sweeney and his doubles partner Matt Boguslawski posted a pair of victories on Mar. 23 during the team's spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., rolling past the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's James Lewison and Robbie Price 8-3 before claiming the 8-1 victory over Calvin College's (Mich.) Roland Eldridge and Preston Phillips 8-1 to close out the trip. Sweeney and Boguslawski have won nine of their 10 matches this season, their lone defeat coming at the hands of a regionally ranked tandem from Luther College (Iowa).

In singles, the junior blanked UW-Oshkosh's Lewison, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 action before defeating Calvin's Eldridge, 6-1, 6-2, for his seventh consecutive victory, improving his singles record to 8-1 on the season.

This is the second time this season and the fourth time in his career that Sweeney has been named CCIW Player of the Week. He won the award on Mar. 17 of this year while additionally claiming the honor on Feb. 17, 2009 and Apr. 28, 2009.

The Cardinals (2-8) return to the courts on Saturday, April 10, traveling to Rock Island, Ill. where they will face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at noon before opening up their conference slate at 3 p.m. against Augustana College.
