August 17, 2009-- The North Central College women's tennis squad was among the 72 institutions to earn the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team Award while
Christine Heyd,
Allison Paschold and
Cory Schillerstrom were each honored with the Scholar-Athlete Award.
North Central joins Wheaton College as the only representatives hailing from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin to earn All-Academic team honors. To be eligible for the award, teams must maintain a grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) or above.
Heyd began the season with 17 straight wins at the No. 5 singles position, ending the season with a 22-7 record in singles play. Paschold compiled an 11-11 mark at No. 2 singles while Schillerstrom concluded the year 17-16 at No. 1 singles, finishing the fall as one of just two freshman to earn a spot on the CCIW All-Conference team.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete Award, student athletes must be a varsity letterwinner, maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA for the academic year and be enrolled at his current college for at least two semesters.
North Central is set to begin the 2009 season at home on September 2 against Lake Forest College (Ill.) with doubles matches slated to begin at 4 p.m. The Cardinals finished the 2008 fall season with an 11-4 record, finishing 4-2 within the CCIW.
