Alternative Spring Break Trips
Each year the college partners with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) through their Collegiate Challenge program. This year, a group of 16 student-athletes and four athletics staff members are traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, over spring break 2009 to build houses for Habitat for Humanity; this is the fourth year for an “alternative spring break” trip to benefit HFH. The students spend a week at a Habitat site building affordable housing for impoverished families. The trip is funded by generous family and friends of participants to help defray costs and provide supplies for the host site. Student-athletes and staff have been working diligently to raise the $8,000 needed to make this trip—$4,000 is a donation directly to the host site for materials and lodging for their trip.
