WHITEWATER, Wis. (Feb. 3, 2012)-- Competing against a field featuring four of the nation's top six track & field squads in NCAA Division III, the North Central College men's team tallied a third place finish on Friday at the Squig Converse Invitational inside Kachel Fieldhouse.
The top-ranked Cardinals finished third with 120.5 points. The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the meet, amassing 168 points while the sixth-ranked and host University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was second with a team tally of 129. Third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh was fourth with 91.5 points while College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin nemesis, Augustana College was fifth among the seven-team field with 75 points.
North Central dominated the 400-meter dash, claiming the top four finishers with all four finishing the two-lap sprint in under 50 seconds.
Dan Benton captured the victory, crossing the tape in 48.95 seconds with
Bai Kabba placing runner-up in 49.36.
Dionte Hackler placed third (49.64) while
Mustapha Olaoye the top four sweep in 49.64.
Yonatan Mascote claimed his second event win in as many weeks, winning the 3,000-meter run in 8:46.51 after claiming the mile at last weekend's NCC Quadrangular.
The Cardinals captured a pair of relays, winning the distance medley relay with a team of
Spiros Angelakos,
Mark Vear,
Ryan Bartell and
Ryan Thompsen and claiming the 4x400-meter relay with the legs of Hackler, Olaoye, Benton and Jon Varon. The DMR finished in 10:35.12 while the 4x4 stopped the clock in 3:20.83.
Kalen Petty finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 7 1/2 inches while Demarco Tillman was third in the high jump, clearing 6' 3 1/4".
The Cardinals return to the track on Saturday, Feb. 11, hosting the Chicagoland Indoor Championships at the Al B. Carius Track. in the first of four straight home meets. Action is slated to get underway at 10 a.m.
