Jan. 7, 2012-- Winning nine of the 11 events contested, the North Central College women's swimming team notched its second dual meet victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, blowing away Monmouth College (Ill.), 64-31, inside the Merner Field House Pool.
Katie Stratton and
Kelsey Tumpane paced the Cardinals (2-1), each tallying four event victories, while
Kelsey Truedson and
Loreli Patschke both tallied event wins in three events.
Stratton breezed to the win in the 200-yard individual medley, winning by a comfortable five-second margin in 2 minutes, 19.63 seconds. Stratton additionally prevailed in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.53 while collaborating with Tumpane, Truedson and Patschke to claim both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome opened the meet by clocking a 1:55.26 in the medley relay, winning by over eight seconds while closing the meet by clocking a 1:46.88 to win the freestyle relay.
Tumpane edged the Fighting Scots Erica McAloon by four-tenths of a second to win the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.44 before touching the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.57.
Truedson established a new pool record in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:01.88 with Patschke placing second in 1:05.77. Patschke prevailed in the 50-yard freestyle, winning with a time of 25.95 while also recording a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.45).
Kate Zumpf captured the 500-yard freestyle in 5:42.83, part of a 1-2 finish for the Cardinals as
Alyssa Walters placed second in 6:16.55. Walters also finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, stopping the clock in 12:38.26.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Friday, heading into the city for the two-day University of Chicago Invitational.
