The resolution, introduced by U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-13th), resolves that the House of Representatives "congratulates North Central College and its athletes, coaches, faculty, students, and alumni on the winning of the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship, and recognizes North Central College for excellence in academics, athletics, and collegiate life."

Biggert referred to the resolution as "a great opportunity to encourage success among today's students." She acknowledged North Central's competitors at the national championship, Kyle Brady, Ryan Carrigan, Sean Carlson, Nathaniel Hird, Neal Klein, Nathan Rutz and Michael Spain, each of whom earned All-America honors at the meet, as "but one example of the high caliber of the College's students in both athletic and academic pursuits."

The 2009 national championship was the 13th in men's cross country at North Central, and the College's 23rd national team title. The Cardinals established a meet record with a 131-point margin of victory.
